Party! Where the Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are
Come to the main library (Victory & Five Mile) next Thursday, October 15th at 7:00pm when we will be celebrating Maurice Sendak's award-winning classic with our own Where the Wild Things Are party! Wear your pajamas, make monster masks and join in the wild rumpus with games, crafts and snacks for the Wild Thing in all of us!

Where the Wild Things Are is

Where the Wild Things Are is a 1963 children's picture book by American writer Maurice Sendak, originally published by Harper & Row. The book is about the wild adventure of a boy named Max who is sent to his room without his supper by his mother as punishment for misbehaving. Max wears a distinctive wolf costume during his adventures and encounters various strange creatures, the "wild things". As a 20 paged children's book, the book is generally regarded as a masterpiece of American illustrated children's literature. A film adaptation of the book was filmed by Spike Jonze after many years of development troubles, set to be released October 16 2009.

Written in 1963, it was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 1964.[1] It also won the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and was an American Library Association Notable Book.

I'm 18 and I love Where the Wild Things Are. Is it okay if I come to this or is it just for young children?

Hi! The Where The Wild

Hi! The Where The Wild Things Are party tonight is definitely geared towards younger children. There will be crafts, a reading of the story, and games. It is going to be lots of fun! However, even though it is geared towards younger children, all ages are definitely welcome to attend. Especially if you are a fan of the book!

We are having a "Where the Wild Things Are" program for preschoolers in 2 weeks, and I was wondering what you used at the snack for your program? I found cupcake rings we could buy, we thought of having some kind of snack in a hot dog "boat" container, or adding triangle wafer cookies on top of a cupcake, but aren't too sure about either of these ideas. Thanks!

Because of the large size of our group, we found it worked best to provide cups of Chex mix ("Wild Mix!") and lemonade at our program. However there are a lot of other fun snack ideas out there as well. For example, a bookstore here in town served white-frosted cookies and provided tubes of black frosting to decorate it by drawing your own Wild Thing face. Have fun!
