Dreams, Ideas and Information

Welcome to the 2010 Big Read Boise and Beyond!

Harper LeeThe Big Read is a time to share a favorite or important book, to explore ideas, themes and topics of local interest as a community. We invite our community to read a book together and experience a number of book related events and activities in the Treasure Valley and other Idaho locations.

The Big Read selection for 2010 is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

All LYNX libraries have multiple copies of the book ready to be checked out along with free readers guides and bookmarks. Book discussions are taking place in libraries all over the area beginning with one here at the Victory Branch on Saturday, February 6th at 2:00 PM. We also have a great variety of other events taking place all over Boise (and beyond), including nationally known speakers. Event schedules are available in libraries, the Cabin and the Idaho Statesman lobby. You can also check it out online.

The Big Read SponsorsThe Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of its citizens. The Big Read brings together partners across the country to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment.

I think it is interesting

I think it is interesting that TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD is currently being read on air by NPR radio station KPBX out of Spokane, Washington, and serving a number of other communities including northern Idaho. Best wishes for THE BIG READ in Ada County from Tim Hunt up here in Hayden, Idaho, who learned of your event by reading the on line newsletter of the Idaho ACLU.

Thanks for sharing that

Thanks for sharing that information; very good to know. Boundary County is participating in the Big Read: Boise and Beyond this year - I sure hope residents there can hear those KPBX broadcasts!
