Using Wireless Internet at Ada Community Libraries

  • How do I use wireless internet at library locations?
    • Users need to bring their own laptop computers or other compatible wireless devices to any Ada Community Library location.
  • Do I need a password?
    • No password is required.
  • What is the SSID or Network Name?
    • “Hidden Springs Branch” for the Hidden Springs Branch
    • “Lake Hazel Branch” for the Lake Hazel Branch
    • “Star Branch Library” for the Star Branch
    • “Upper Victory Branch Library” for the upstairs of the Victory Branch
    • “Lower Victory Branch Library” for the downstairs of the Victory Branch
  • What else do I need to know?
    • Public wireless networks are not secure. Users are responsible for installing antivirus software on their laptops. No printing is available from the wireless network. If you need to print, please use one of the library’s public PCs. Staff cannot provide assistance to users in configuring their own equipment. You may need to contact the manufacturer of the hardware/software.
  • Is the wireless internet access filtered for content?
    • Yes, all access through the library’s wireless internet service passes through our content filter (which is also used on our public computers).

Ada Community Library Public Electronic Use Policy

The Ada Community Library provides access to recorded expression and information regardless of the formats or technologies in accordance with our collection development policy. Electronic information, services and networks provided directly or indirectly by the Ada Community Library will be readily, equally, and equitably accessible at no charge to all library users. While the library will attempt to maintain, it cannot guarantee patron confidentiality involving the electronic resources and services provided by the Ada Community Library. Patrons should be aware that the Internet is not a secure medium and that third parties may be able to obtain information regarding users’ activities.

The Ada Community Library does not endorse the viewpoints or vouch for the accuracy or authenticity of electronic information. Not all the information available via the Internet is accurate, current, or complete. Users are encouraged to exercise critical judgment in evaluating the validity of information accessed via the Internet. Parents should also understand that filters are not 100% effective. Parents must be responsible for providing guidance to their own children. The Library assumes no responsibility for any damages, direct or indirect, arising from its connection to the Internet.

Electronic system usage must not violate any local, state or federal laws. The following activities are prohibited, but not limited to: harassment of staff or members of the public, especially in matters of race, creed, color, national origin, gender, disability or sexual orientation; viewing, storing or transmitting pornographic images, messages, graphics or cartoons; downloading, duplication or sharing of licensed software; unauthorized access of others’ files or e-mails; and sending chain letters, spamming, or letter-bombing.

Use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right. Internet users displaying information unsuitable for viewing in the Library, as defined above, may have Internet access restricted in the future. Violations of library policy may subject the user to penalties, up to and including criminal and civil penalties.
