The world under us is not what we think. Instead of layers and layers of rock, there is a fairy city under us. Why are they underground, you ask? Well the humans had a war with the fairies and the humans won and the fairies retreated underground. Then Artemis Fowl comes into the story. He is the younger son of a great thief. Artemis is all brain and no brawn, that is why he has Butler. Butler is a massive human that went under the most intense bodyguard training that you would ever hear. Well, anyways in the first book Artemis goes on a very dangerous mission to get some fairy gold That is how he meets Holly Short fairy LEP officer. Now that you know how Artemis is involved with fairies, you will learn more about this book. The story begins when Opal (a very smart fairy criminal) is in a clinic where she looks like she is in a coma but she really is under a deep sleep. Up top Artemis is going to steal the most valuable painting in Ireland...no it is not the Mona Lisa but he fairy thief. If you steal this painting then you are considered a master thief. Artemis does steal it but a fairy rocket zooms right into Artemis's room. Luckily, he has Butler or else he would have died. Down below things are bad as well. A fairy named Holly Short is trying to save Artemis from the rocket, which she fails, but Butler helps. Then she meets up with Artemis and saves his life, and then they get stuck trying to save fairy city and to defeat Opal once and for all.
