Library Associate
Lake Hazel Branch

Status: Part Time
Hours per Week: 24
Starting Salary: $11.97 per hour

Primary Responsibilities -
Under direction of the Branch Manager, create and maintain positive public relations with patrons, community members, and staff. Provide reference/readers advisory, technology assistance, programming, and circulation duties.

Essential Job Functions – fundamental position duties

  • Provides excellent customer service in locating information, answering reference/readers advisory inquiries and guiding patrons in the use of library resources
  • Provides circulation services including check-in, check-out, patron registration, resolution of patron problems within guidelines, etc
  • Plans and implements programs and outreach for youth and/or teens
  • Provides instruction and assistance to patrons in computer use
  • Explains library policies and procedures to patrons and resolves problems
  • Participates in evening and weekend work schedule

Minimum Qualifications – Experience, education and special skills

  • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent education/experience and at least one year practical/applicable library experience.
  • Knowledge of a library’s collection, reference materials and general library policies, practices and procedures.
  • Customer service skills and experience; Excellent communication skills, tact and friendliness
  • Excellent computer skills; Ability to utilize computer hardware and software in the performance of duties
  • Ability to work in a team environment; to supervise and schedule the work of others, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other organizations and the general public
  • Ability to provide reader’s advisory and reference services
  • Ability to respond positively to negative criticism from the public
  • Must have flexibility

Primary Responsibilities -
A Page at the Ada Community Library shelves and maintains proper order of books and other materials; performs a variety of simple routine clerical tasks; sets up for programs and meetings; may assist with programs on occasion; and performs related work as required.

Essential Job Functions – fundamental position duties

  • Sort and Shelve books and other assorted library materials alphabetically by author and title or numerically by Dewey Decimal System
  • Locate and shelve books, magazines, pamphlets, maps, newspapers, audio-visual materials, software and multimedia kits
  • Shelf read on an ongoing basis and shift items on shelves as needed
  • Empty book drops, trash/recycle receptacles and perform other opening or closing duties
  • Straighten furniture
  • Shelve items from reshelve areas and pick up books and other items that are loose on the shelves
  • Perform pre-closing and closing announcements
  • Assist circulation and youth services staff as needed.

Minimum Qualifications – Experience, education and special skills

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age and presently attending or a graduate of high school or equivalent program.
  • Ability to compare names and numbers quickly and accurately;
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to provide effective, pleasant customer referrals to reference or circulation staff;
  • Ability to be able to move, on carts, up to 150 pounds of weight and lift up to 25 pounds of weight;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and supervisors;
  • Ability to work Fridays, Saturdays and weeknight evenings.

Maintenance Helper

Status: Part Time Temporary Position (Up to One Year)
Hours per Week: 10 to15
Starting Salary: $12.37 per hour

Primary Responsibilities -
Under direction of the Facilities Coordinator, keeps building and associated facility equipment in clean and operating condition.

Essential Job Functions – fundamental position duties

  • Provides assistance to Facilities Coordinator and Facilities Assistant in the preventative and regular maintenance of the interior and exterior of the premises.
  • Unloads, prepares, and sets up tools, equipment, and other materials for tasks assigned.
  • Cleans and clears debris and other materials in and around the premises. May include weeding, light debris removal, clearing of ice and snow, etc.
  • Ensures equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly
  • Scheduled hours may be flexible. Odd hours may be required in case of emergencies and off-hour projects

Minimum Qualifications – Experience, education and special skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of construction and maintenance safety procedures
  • Basic knowledge of construction trade work e.g. carpentry, mechanical, plumbing
  • Satisfactory ability to use hand and power tools; to operate light, medium and heavy equipment
  • Ability to work alone and in a team environment
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds
  • Ability to operate a PC and perform basic software functions such as Microsoft application and Internet operations, and e-mail usage;
  • Ability to use common maintenance tools including tape measure, paint brushes, yard/lawn tools, janitorial equipment, etc.
  • Must be flexible and willing to use own transportation between job sites.
